Addiction Touches Every Community
Understanding Addiction

Addiction isn’t a personal failure. It’s a medical condition, one that impacts people from all walks of life. For too long, stigma and misunderstanding have kept people from getting the help they need. Whether you’re seeking support for addiction, career growth in the addiction services field or resources to help others, we’re here for you every step of the way.

Supporting Recovery and Growth
Led by Experts. Driven by Compassion.

How OASAS Helps New Yorkers

OASAS is New York's lead agency for addressing overdose, substance use disorders and problem gambling. Under Commissioner Dr. Chinazo Cunningham, we’re working to make services more accessible, more effective, and more compassionate than ever before.

We fund, regulate and support a wide range of programs, from school-based prevention to community-based harm reduction to state-run treatment centers, so that no New Yorker faces these challenges alone.

We offer clear pathways to recovery and growth, supporting you whether you are seeking help or advancing your career in addiction services.

Turn the Page on Stigma

Everyone Has a Story, and We Shouldn't Judge

Our latest public awareness campaign empowers New Yorkers to identify and eliminate stigma through person-first language, reducing blame, and promoting acceptance and inclusion. Our goal is to emphasize that there is an individual behind the disease, and that they are not defined by their addiction.
Substance Use Disorder is a medical condition. Being judgmental is a choice. Don't know? Don't judge.
