Learning Thursdays is a free self-study opportunity for New York State's behavioral health workforce. It is aimed at individuals who are pursuing their initial professional credential or looking to renew an existing credential. Participants can earn continuing education credits. If you have questions about these courses or the test portal, email the Learning Thursdays unit at [email protected].
Check back regularly for new courses that cover a variety of topics, including professional development, clinical guidance, and effective strategies for engaging diverse populations.
Course credits and sections may vary, so it’s important to review the course descriptions for details on the clock-hour credits awarded. Some courses are approved by NYSED to fulfill continuing education requirements for social work.
Review the course materials and take the exam in the OASAS Test Portal (Answerkey). Register for an account first, if needed. After passing, you’ll get a certificate. If you fail, you can retake the exam after 24 hours.
Courses may help fulfill requirements for the following credentials:
- Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) Renewal
- Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) Initial or Renewal
- Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS) Initial or Renewal
- Credentialed professionals pursuing a Gambling Specialty (G) designation (CASAC-G, CPP-G, CPS-G)
Attention LMSWs, LCSWs, and LMHCs: Remember that there is a limitation of 12 continuing education hours in a 36-month registration period for self-study courses. For registration periods other than 36 months, the limit is one-third of the total hours.
