Credentialing of Addictions Professionals Regulations
Summary of Updates
Effective September 26, 2023, Part 853 Credentialing of Addictions Professionals Regulations have been updated to include the following:
All Applicants and Credentialed Individuals
- Personal checks will be accepted for all fees
- Attestation available in applications to use a preferred first name
- Updated mandatory one-time requirements
CASAC, CPP/CPS Applicants
- Applications are active for five-years from the date of first review
- One-time three-year extension for CASAC-Ts/CASAC-Ps that are exam eligible
- Clinical supervisor must be an Advanced/Master CASAC or hold NYSED license
- Formation of the CASAC-Provisional (CASAC-P). Requirements/Information:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in human services
- Must submit graduated transcript(s)
- Completion of mandatory one-time requirements
- Completed and signed Verification of Employment or Intent to Hire form (if this form is not submitted, application will be reviewed for CASAC-T eligibility)
- Same Scope of Practice as a CASAC-Trainee
- Cannot apply for both a CASAC-T and CASAC-P
- Expired Trainees can apply for the CASAC-P
Renewal Applicants
- Flat $50 late renewal fee
- If in Late Renewal, will need to comply with April 2021 Regs
- Attestation replaces need for evaluation for Competency and Professional Conduct
- Attestation for 60-hour education requirement
- Random monthly audits of attestations
Reinstatement
- Reinstate when credential has been expired over one year
- Replaces need to start new CASAC application
- Replaces inactivation and reactivation
- $400 application fee; $500 Dual Renewal
- Attestation of adherence to the Canon and Code of Conduct
- 75 mandated specific training hours for CASACs and CPGCs
- 70 mandated specific training hours for CPP and CPS
Addition to Misconduct Part 853.13
- 853.13(10) initiating or pursuing a romantic, sexual or otherwise sexually exploitive relationship or committing sexual misconduct with a service recipient using romantic/sexual comments or touch, romantic/sexual contact in written, telephonic or electronic format including but not limited to social media, text messaging, email, photos, videos or recordings of a romantic or sexual nature.
