What is a young adult recovery residence, and what services and resources do they offer? 

These programs are provider-operated recovery residences in local communities that have made beds available specifically for young adults ages 18 to 24 in recovery from substance use disorder, who are also experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

Could you provide details about each location, including available resources and staffing? 

The homes are located in safe, welcoming neighborhoods, surrounded by recovery resources, medical and treatment providers, and local services. Each house is served by a staffed house manager, peer supports, and an administrator.

Is insurance required, or what are the costs involved?

For a limited time, eligible young adults will have their living expenses and monthly rent paid using funds from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration State Opioid Response Young Adult Recovery Residences grant, which will be managed by OASAS. This program will provide housing and services for up to 39 young adults with substance use disorder and opioid addiction in New York State over the course of one year. 

What are the admission requirements? 

Eligible young adults must be between 18 and 24 years old with a substance use disorder, a documented housing need, and an active commitment to a recovery plan.

How long can individuals stay?

Recovery residences typically offer flexible lengths of stay depending on recovery needs. However, this is also discussed with the particular housing provider during the intake process.

What can I expect while living in the recovery residence? 

Young adults will be supported in their recovery journey and work towards specific goals, which may include vocational, educational, interpersonal, and family goals. Additional services will be offered including peer supports and recovery support services.
