Regional Support Service Descriptions

Overview

OASAS has established several innovative programs across the state to better meet the needs of New Yorkers. These locally-based services meet individuals and families wherever they are in their path to recovery. In addition to traditional treatment services offered at OASAS Addiction Treatment Centers and OASAS-certified providers, these programs increase access to assessments, referrals, and family support and reduce any barriers to receiving help.

Recovery Centers

Recovery Centers provide a community-based, non-clinical setting that is safe, welcoming and alcohol/drug-free for the whole community. The centers promote long-term recovery through skill-building, recreation, employment readiness and the opportunity to connect with peers who are going through similar challenges.

They also provide health, wellness and other critical supports to people and families who are in recovery from a substance use disorder or are seeking recovery.

Clubhouses

Clubhouses provide a restorative, non-clinical environment for young people whose lives have been disrupted by addiction to connect with others in recovery. Clubhouses are built on a core of peer-driven supports and services that help young people progress in their recovery, by encouraging a drug-free lifestyle.

Clubhouses for Youth cater to ages 12 to 17. Clubhouses for Young Adults cater to ages 18 to 21.

Outreach and Engagement Services

Clinical Model

Through the Outreach and Engagement Services: Clinical Model, OASAS certified providers are focused on engaging people in treatment through mobile clinic services — bringing treatment staff into unserved and/or underserved areas; expanding tele-practice sites; and enhanced peer outreach and engagement within the community. Formally known as our Centers of Treatment Innovation (COTI), the OES: Clinical Model has expanded to provide outreach and engagement services throughout the state.

Street Based Model

Building on the success of the OES: Clinical Model, OASAS has provided funding to harm reduction programs throughout the state that are focused on engaging people who use drugs. The goal of this initiative is to enhance low-threshold harm reduction and support services for difficult-to-reach individuals.
