Clinical Support Trainings

OASAS has teamed up with the Partnership to End Addiction to offer free and recurring clinical training courses online. Training in a Box (TiB) and webinar lectures give you the tools to implement person-centered care practices in clinical settings and may include live clinical demonstrations of interventions between a mock client and clinician.

All training courses can be viewed individually or utilized during clinical staff trainings and/or supervision as a teaching tool. Trainings fulfill some initial and renewal CASAC, CPP, CPS, and Social Work hours.

TiB: Person-centered Care and Harm Reduction

In this digital self-paced clinical training, we will discuss and demonstrate important information on how to engage with patients in a more person-centered manner by using the principles and strategies offered by harm reduction.

This training fulfills 3-clock hour credit toward:

TiB: Person-centered Care

This clinical training gives a practical overview of the principles of person-centered care in concert with the OASAS person-centered care guidelines, a set of principals and expectations for providing a person-centered care model of service delivery.

TiB: LOCADTR 3.0

This training provides clinical guidance and support in utilizing LOCADTR 3.0 effectively. The LOCADTR is a web-based tool developed to assist treatment providers, Medicaid Managed Care plans, and other referral sources, in determining appropriate levels of care for clients.

TiB: Early Treatment Engagement Using Person Centered Care

During this clinical training you will follow the initial treatment engagement sessions between Andre and his counselor Rebecca, as well a clinical supervision session and peer engagement. The goal of these vignettes is to demonstrate appropriate person-centered care practices including highlighting Andre’s strengths and preferences that allow him to set goals that are most important to him.

This training fulfills 1-clock hour credit toward:

TiB: Treatment Planning

A training for Part 822 Outpatient counselors to learn how to effectively integrate treatment planning as part of their counseling sessions, as well as strategies for documenting treatment planning in the patient’s case record. The training module helps clinical staff provide effective person-centered treatment planning as part of their routine counseling sessions with their patients, as well as comply with the Part 822 regulatory requirements. You will be asked to create an account before gaining access to this training.

TiB: Plan of Treatment in Outpatient Programs

In this course, participants will learn about the amendments made to Part 822, and best practices for developing a plan of treatment using a person-centered approach.

Basic Skills for Family Engagement in a Time of Crisis Series

This is a five-part lecture series outlining the basic skills of the role of telepractice in addiction services and working with families during a crisis.  You will need the OASAS Telepractice Standards and Telepractice FAQ as reference material when completing the course. Series topics include:

• Getting Comfortable with Technology and Acknowledging Challenges - An overview of considerations, technical suggestions, and solutions for common challenges and barriers when using telepractice with families.
• Preparing for and Engaging with Loved One’s Returning Home From Treatment - Practices to consider when preparing family members for their loved one’s return from treatment and creating a healthy home environment for families.
• Things to Keep in Mind While Working with Families Under Any Circumstance - An overview of basic elements and resources when working with families in a non-crisis situation.
• Special Considerations for COVID-19 - Information and resources for providers working with families specific to crisis situations.
• Evidenced-Based Resources to Use With Families - Basic overview of information on Evidenced-Based and Evidence-supported trainings and therapeutic modalities to use with family members.

Credentialing credit will be given for completing all five topics. This training fulfills 1.25 clock hour credits toward:

Adolescent Endorsement Skill Building Role Plays

This training provides an overview of select Adolescent Endorsement Standards with the intent to highlight and strengthen the use of desirable counseling skills when working with adolescents and their families. Adolescent Endorsement Standards highlighted in this training include Assessment, Developmentally Informed Treatment, and Trauma Informed Treatment. Adolescent Medication-Assisted Treatment Grand Rounds

Top medical leadership at OASAS are joined by national experts for a unique three-part webinar opportunity to discuss the use of medications to treat addiction, including opioid use disorder, for adolescents and young adults. Please refer to the Adolescent Endorsement page for more information.

Treatment Planning in Person Centered Care Practice 

Overview of new requirements for treatment planning that will reflect an integrated and continuous process of care.  During the webinar, participants will be able learn the required regulatory changes in treatment planning and gain an understanding of how to integrate and document  ongoing goals for their clients within progress notes.

Shared Decision-Making

This course provides and overview of shared decision making and offers specific examples of how to integrate shared decision making into clinical practice settings.

This Training in a Box (TiB) can be used during group or individual supervision or viewed on an individual basis. During this TiB, the learner will follow the initial treatment engagement sessions between Andre and his counselor, Rebecca, as well a clinical supervision and peer engagement session. The goal of these vignettes is to demonstrate appropriate person-centered care practices focusing initial engagement with Andre, highlighting his strengths and preferences that will allow him to set goals that are most important to him.
